Ranitidine is in a group of medications called histamine-2 blockers. Ranitidine works by reducing the amount of acid your stomach produces. Ranitidine is used to treat and prevent ulcers in the stomach and intestines. It also treats conditions in which the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Ranitidine also treats gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and other conditions in which acid backs up from the stomach into the esophagus, causing heartburn.

RECIPES FOR HEALTHY PLEASURES: PAPA JOE’S HOT-TO-THROT CHILI
1/2 tbsp. olive oil
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 medium onion, chopped
1-1/2 tbsp. chili powder
1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1 tsp. leaf oregano
3/4 tsp. leaf thyme
1/4tsp. freshly ground pepper
1 green pepper, chopped
2 cups fresh tomatoes, chopped (or116-ounce can whole tomatoes)
1 (4-ounce) can chopped chilies, drained ('mild'fortender palates)
115-1 /2-ounce can red kidney beans, undrained
1/2cupwater
1/2 cup coarse bulgur
Combine oil, garlic, onion and seasonings in a 2 quart microproof casserole. Cover and microwave on HIGH 1 minute; stir and add remaining ingredients, mixing well to combine. Cover and microwave on HIGH 6 to 8 minutes or until boiling. Continue to microwave on MEDIUM (50 percent power) for 15 minutes. Let stand five minutes before serving. If desired, serve with shredded cheddar cheese or non-fat yogurt, or sprinkle with dried Parmesan cheese and serve over macaroni for the vegetarian version of Chili-Mac.
